The Texas Comptroller T2 Initiative by Aron Brackeen

The Honorable Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (Susan.Combs@cpa.state.tx.us; 512-463-4444), recently gave a speech in preparation for the 82nd Texas Legislature scheduled to convene at noon on January 11, 2011.  In her speech, Being Great is Where Texas Starts (01/05/2011), Combs mentioned how well Texas is doing and the Texas Transformation (T2) initiative.  Brace yourself.

Consider that former Comptroller Strayhorn reported in 2003 a state-budget shortfall of $9.9 billion for the fiscal year of 2004-2005
[En. 1].  The difference this time: It has increased.  Four years later, current estimates are $11 billion and more going into 2011 for the first year of the next biennium budget.  Is that progress?  (That is not necessarily the fault of a comptroller.)  However, Combs does not include those numbers while speaking of "successful" and "fiercely independent" Texans having an "uncommon, common sense."  She did not mention when Gov. Perry included in state revenue that toxic, 'get-Texas-tax-money-back' stimulus from President Obama in 2009, which is not part of normal, annual income for the State.  Those descriptions she used, in my opinion, are...
